A special exhibition entitled “Orders of Battle: the Clans and Regiments of Prestonpans” is going into place at Prestonpans Town Hall ahead of our first public open weekend on 26-27 June. This will be our first opportunity to welcome visitors and neighbours into the Town Hall since we took the keys last month to begin an exciting refurbishment project. That task is still underway, but we wanted to provide an opportunity to share our plans in person so we’ve worked hard to move things to the point where we can give an impression of what the finished hall will be like.
The star of the exhibition will be our Paper Soldiers display – 5,000 miniature figures helping to visualise how the battle lines might have looked in 1745. The artwork of these “paperboys” also illustrates new text panels providing information on the regiments which made up the rival armies. There’ll be a chance to see a new model of HMS Fox, and a chance to meet a few costumed volunteers too!
All effort has been taken to comply with Covid guidelines, so there’ll be a one-way system in place and limited capacity (no booking required). Please wear a face mask on entering.
The exhibition is free and open from 11am-4pm on Saturday 26th June and Sunday 27th June 2021.
