At 11am on Saturday 6th August, the clock goes back to 1897 – at Prestonpans Town Hall at least!
We’ll be recreating the original ceremony at which the hall was formally opened 125 years ago, including the speeches made by Provost McEwan and Richard Haldane MP.
Following the ceremony, visitors are invited to meet our team of “Victorians” to learn more about life in teh 1890s, and the history of the Town Hall. Younger visitors can try their hand at making a Victorian-style peg doll, or play in our kids’ camp. There’ll even be some Victorian-themed refreshments available, and a chance to buy a special commemorative medal to mark this milestone anniversary.
We’ll also be collecting more of your memories of the Town Hall, to be added to our memorial book, and we’ll be unveiling a newly-commissioned celebration artwork by Janet McCrorie.
Our Jacobite and Jubilee exhibitions will be available as usual.
