Following the success of our first ever interactive wargame, “What If?” returns for a new real-time alternative history of The ’45. Last time, the Jacobite army’s decisions – beginning in the aftermath of their victory at Prestonpans – were made by public votes on our Facebook page. A team led by Brett Fletcher and Dave Smith responded for the forces of George II. The game carried the war deep into the south of England and even saw the French landing in Kent, but the Jacobites were driven back nonetheless and faced destruction in a succession of desparate battles. This time, the tables are turned: the British army’s decisions are being taken by the public, and the Jacobites commanded by last year’s victors!
“What IF?” II is also starting the timeline earlier, beginning on 19 August when the Jacobites raise their Standard at Glenfinnan. Perhaps their campaign can be snuffed out early, as Sir John Cope had originally intended in 1745!
As before, our campaign videos will be posted on our @Prestonpans1745 YouTube channel, but this time we are also holding a special Facebook group for those wanted to get stuck into the strategic discussions:
