The anniversary of the Battle of Prestonpans was this year (2022) marked in a more subdued style than usual, owing to the sad passing of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth. On 21 September, pupils from Stobhill Primary School paid their respects at the 1745 Cairn, laying a wreath on behalf of all those who fought and fell, as part of their walking tour of the battlefield with our curator.
At the weekend following, we were delighted to welcome back our friends from the Alan Breck Regiment, who held two days of costumed interpretation at our museum. In addition, there was a special display of information relating to the military flags used at the battle, and visitors completed the final fabric pieces which will form our 2022 commemorative banner. When completed, this will be displayed alongside the school banners created for the Grand Parade in 2018.
